amazing organization! Staffs are super helpful!! we adopted our Bengal baby Jade who had behavioral issues 2 years ago during the pandemic. she was super timid and pees on everything. We worked with the behavioral specialist for 2-3 sessions and got her to trust us after a few months of hard work! 1 year later we figured out to use pee pads for her and she doesn’t pee on furnitures no more! she’s thriving and became best friends with our orange cat Nikko! it’s the most rewarding experience!
I'm a foster Mom for one of their kitties since Aug 2023, and it has been a great experience. Friends for Life is easy to work with, easy to contact, and they are eager to make my job as a foster parent stress-free. I have had no regrets since day one.
I love love love this place. Adopted one of my cats from here 11yrs ago and I've had a soft spot for this place since. Friendly staff and adorable pets.
This place is such a blessing ! I signed up for pet food an usually when I go to a pet drive from other places when they have community events, I get two zip log bags and I’m grateful! This place gave me an my mom’s pet more than I expected. So thankful! Thanks 😊 …
We first adopted 2 kittens in 2016 from friends for life, and recently, we decided it was time to expand our family and adopt another kitten. We went back to Friends for life because they have done a tremendous job with Ragnar and Lagertha. Yes, the application is long, sometimes you ask for a kitten that was just posted and by the time you get a reply, the kitten has been reserved by someone else. You might try to call few times and get no answer, but if you want to adopt, don't give up! That being said, I love their sleepover policy, especially when you have other animals in the house, and how transparent they are with the cats health. We took Casper to our vet yesterday for our 3-day post adoption policy, and even our vet was impressed on how Friends for Life was on top of it with medical records and such. We max-out the number of animals in the house for now but I will highly recommend this shelter to those who can adopt.
I have adopted at friends for life before. I wont ever again. We wanted to adopt again. Another dog for our family and the way we were treated on dog to dog meet was like we were irresponsible and unfit. Our dog didn’t even have the chance to meet the other dog once we drove up there just because he wasn’t neutered yet. The dog we were adoring was spayed. Our dog is a large breed you are supposed to wait until hormones have fully developed which is a little after they turn one. He just turned one in November. We were told that because he wasn’t neutered he would be aggressive and hyper active and not a good fit. Our dog for one is a still a puppy so yes he will have high energy but in no way is or has ever been aggressive and has been around other female and male dogs on a REGULAR basis. We would never consider adopting another dog if he was and the fact they judged and robbed not only him and us from saving another dog life and potential life long family member, they also robbed the dog we were interested in by not even getting her a chance to meet us and him. I have trained and socialized my dog since we got him at 8 weeks old. I gave them every piece of information they asked for and everything was fine until they saw he was neutered. They were judgmental and rude and I could keep going on about this experience.
Update-see photo of our dog with Lucy who we adopted from the cat cafe just a few months later. They were much more willing to work with us and didn’t make us feel like unfit animal caretakers.
As a lifelong supporter and adopter of rescues, I was really disappointed and shocked at the poor treatment and respect of our interest in adopting a cat. We were ultimately told (after weeks of waiting and consistent follow up) that because our dog showed interest and curiosity at hearing cat sounds from my phone (staff told us to do this), that they decided we could not have a cat in our home. This was after my family and i watched and read all of the suggested training and transition videos and literature they provided. My daughter sobbed feeling she had done everything they asked and still we were not given a chance to at least have a sleepover- which is for the purpose of trying out the adoption in situations where there is uncertainty. It felt they just didn’t want to bother working with us and used the excuse of the cat noises to dismiss us. I do not know any animal that lacks interest in sounds coming from another. We will seek out another rescue group that is willing to work with us
Friend for Life is an amazing animal shelter. They provide the Houston area with a no kill animal shelter and great pet help resources from food, vaccinations and flea medicine that isn't income based and so much more on their website. My dogs got vaccinations from their drive thru clinic before and Friends For Life also gave food, treats and new leashes and collars which was a wonderful surprise. My dogs were happy the whole time which shows that they know how to treat the animals with care.
